The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology released a study in April 2006 finding that a lower dose of isotretinoin, or Accutane, may be more effective on moderate acne patients and less likely to cause the serious side effects associated with higher doses of the acne drug.
According to a Reuters Health article on April 26, Dr. Marcelo H. Grunwald of Soroka University, Beer-Sheva, Israel and a team of researchers completed a study of 638 moderate acne patients over a six-month period.
"Six months of treatment with low-dose isotretinoin," Grunwald's team concludes, "was found to be effective in the treatment of moderate acne, with a low incidence of severe side effects and at a lower cost than higher doses."
